The history of Yazd dates back to the time of Alexander the Great, a thousand years before the introduction of Islam. During the Sasanian Empire (224-651 AD), the city of Yazd was an important center of silk production throughout the 13th century. The number of knots in square inch is much less than Isfahan rugs, but the pile is softer and longer. However, Yazd rugs are extremely popular in Iran for home use, which have very strong colors. The amount of colors used in Yazd rugs is endless, but burgundy is usually the predominant color and some other common colors are different shades of blue and green. Yazd rugs have floral patterns.
