This elegant Afshar carries an ivory field sown with an allover procession of botéhs — the ancient teardrop motif — drawn in madder red and indigo and filled with delicate flowers. The rust-red border responds with angled scroll vines, completing a composition of perfect equilibrium between light and saturation. Woven in high pile of remarkably soft wool, it offers that rare combination of graphic clarity and physical comfort. The Afshar tribes of southern Persia gave the botéh some of its most charming interpretations, and this rug is among them: orderly without stiffness, joyful without excess.
