Lori – West Persia

An antique Persian Lori of excellent quality, made with true artistic mastery. Its central field carries an allover pattern of colourful flowers intertwined over a ground of dark beige — an earthy walnut tone that lets the terracotta, ivory and blue of the blossoms glow like glazed ceramic. Three borders in rust, ivory and beige enclose the field, the ivory one traced with the zigzag hooks beloved of the Lori tribes. There is a rustic elegance here that no workshop can imitate: the honest palette of the Zagros foothills, wool rich in lanolin, and the confident hand of a weaver raised at the loom.
