Serapi – Northwest Persia

An antique Serapi of high artistic calibre. Around the large central medallion in blue and salmon, the red field vibrates with stylized leaves and flowers drawn freely and spontaneously — no two floral elements alike in the entire rug, the surest sign of a weaver improvising like a musician over a known theme. Four corners in warm yellow gather and calm the field’s energy, while the ivory border parades grand serrated palmettes in walnut and slate.
