Beluche – East Persia

An elegant Beluche from the 1940s, in navy blue and wine — a colour combination of rare refinement, carried by wool of exceptional quality. The geometric design covers the entire surface, resolving into three central medallions surrounded by an allover scroll of small hooked motifs, tone laid upon tone. Three borders, richly adorned with figures, complete the composition. The effect is extraordinary: in the interplay of those deep, close shades, the geometry seems to rise in relief, as though the figures protruded above the rug’s surface. A nocturnal, contemplative piece — the Beluche tradition at its most sophisticated.
