Antique Persian Rugs in São Paulo

Buying an antique rug is not like buying a new one. There is no warehouse holding ten identical pieces in three sizes: each rug was woven by hand, once, in one place and one period, and it does not repeat. That is why the choice starts with the room rather than the catalogue, and why it is worth seeing a piece up close before deciding.

Where to see the pieces

The collection is in Alphaville, in Barueri, Greater São Paulo, and it is seen by appointment. It is not a street shop with a window, it is a private collection. We arrange it on WhatsApp and you see the pieces laid out on the floor, unhurried.

If you prefer, the reverse works just as well: I bring a selection to your home or your office, in São Paulo and the surrounding region. Seeing the rug in the place where it will live, in that room’s light and beside your own furniture, is the best way to decide.

And if you are away from São Paulo, or simply prefer to settle it at a distance, I send high-resolution photographs and video of any piece, with the measurements and the condition described without retouching.

Why seeing it up close changes the decision

No photograph shows the low sheen that mountain sheep wool takes on with time. Nor does it show the weight of the piece, the density of the knot under your fingers, or the abrash, that shift in tone that appears where the weaver changed skeins and which, in an antique rug, is a sign of natural dye rather than a fault.

There is also the question of colour. The same piece changes temperature with the light of the room: the red of a Kazak that looks strong on screen usually settles well in a room with a lot of wood, and the ivory of a Malayer that looks washed out in a photograph opens the space once it is on the floor.

How it works

The simplest start: measure the room, the length and the width of the space the rug will occupy, and send it to me on WhatsApp together with a photograph of the place. With that I can set aside what makes sense in your size, instead of you going through the whole catalogue.

Every piece comes with a certificate of authenticity, and the collection changes: pieces leave, others arrive, and there is almost always something on its way that has not reached the catalogue yet.
