A beautiful antique Kazak in vibrant natural dyes. Four diamond-shaped medallions, armed with latch-hooks, command the crimson field, surrounded by a lively population of geometric figures in sky blue, saffron yellow and ivory. The main border answers with stylized crabs parading on ivory ground — one of the most beloved motifs of the Caucasus. Everything here is bold: the drawing broad, the colours sun-drenched, the wool lustrous. Kazaks of this character were woven as declarations, not decorations, and more than a century later this one has lost none of its voice.
