A classic Kazak: ten serrated diamond medallions line up along the blue field, escorted by smaller serrated medallions, lozenges, flowers, bushes and geometric figures that fill the centre with festive density. The ivory main border carries the curious devices resembling padlocks known as hormeh naqish, flanked by two narrower guards. Everything here is drawn with the broad, sunlit confidence of the central Caucasus — saturated reds and golds against deep blue, wool with a lively lustre. A rug that organizes a room the way a bonfire organizes a night: everyone turns toward it.
