Handcrafted in Eastern Persia in the 1950s, this Beluche is a rug of strong and striking personality. Against a field of deep ebony, the weaver set a constellation of tribal ornament — serrated leaves, hooked medallions and star-like octagons — in carmine red, saffron orange and ivory. The dark ground makes each motif burn brighter, like embers against the night, a dramatic contrast that is the hallmark of the finest Beluche weavings. Richly coloured and boldly drawn, it carries the direct, unhesitating hand of a weaver working within a living nomadic tradition. A piece for those who prefer their geometry with temperament.
