Beluche – East Persia

Handmade in the 1950s, this Beluche is one of the most charming rugs of our collection. Against a black background, two columns of yellow peacocks parade up the centre of the carpet — golden birds drawn with tribal candour, accompanied by ivory flowering trees and geometric figures. Red borders complete the frame with quiet ceremony. Animal imagery of this warmth is uncommon in Beluche weaving, which makes the piece as collectable as it is endearing. It draws attention and richly enhances any environment — on the floor, or hung on the wall as the work of art it is.
