Bukhara – Central Asia

In the deep, resonant reds that made the weavings of Central Asia legendary, this Bukhara carries the full vocabulary of the Turkmen tribes. Bands of serrated zigzags and latch-hooked diamonds descend the field in disciplined rows, drawn in madder red, burnt orange and ivory over a ground the colour of garnet. Toward the lower section, the weaver allowed the dye to shift subtly in tone — the abrash technique — leaving in the wool a quiet record of the hand-dyeing process, prized by collectors as a signature of authenticity. Framed by narrow geometric guard bands, this is a rug of warmth and gravity, bringing to a room the nomadic soul of the steppes and the burnished glow of old dyes.
