This vibrant Chichi was woven in the Kuba (Quba) district of modern-day Azerbaijan. Six Lesghi stars spread across the bright red field, each set on a white ground of small squares composing a cross with rosebuds; around these starry medallions circulate colourful flowers, hooked diamonds, combs and S-shaped figures — the full whispered vocabulary of the Caucasus. And then the signature: the celebrated Chichi border, where roses alternate with diagonal bars on dark brown, one of the most recognizable framings in all of rug weaving. Precise, dense and joyful — Kuba craftsmanship at its proudest.
