This masterful design is known as the Eagle Kazak, produced in Chelaberd, Karabagh — and this example, in a larger format than usual, shows the type in full glory. Four great medallions represent the sun in its radiant power, each crowned with twelve precisely drawn feathers that burst across the madder-red field like wings mid-flight; within each medallion, a set of roses blooms quietly at the heart of all that force. Around them, the field teems with geometric motifs and stylized animals in navy, gold and ivory. The Eagle Kazak is the most coveted icon of Caucasian weaving — heraldic, solar, unforgettable — and four suns on one rug is an event.
