Gendje – South Caucasus  

From the mountainous region of Gendje, this rug carries the delicate diagonal-stripe design that made the district beloved. The stripes flow with floral motifs and small geometric figures in a dazzling procession of colour — striking blues, reds, indigo and ivory that still shine after more than a century. It is this perfect composition that gives the rug its vibrant, joyful feeling, like a festival seen from a hillside. The central ivory border is filled with large blossoms, guarded by two reciprocal crenellated borders — one in blue and ivory, the other in red and green. A Caucasian classic of pure happiness.
