This attractive Kashan silk rug, woven in Central Persia around 1950–1960, is an essay in lightness. Over a ground of pearl and ivory, arabesques and blossoms unfold in faded rose, mauve and powder blue — a palette of watercolour softness, drawn with the fineness that only pure silk permits. The full-silk pile gives the surface its shifting luminosity, so the rug changes character with every hour of the day. Its gentle tones are remarkably in tune with contemporary interiors, proof that the classical repertoire of Kashan translates effortlessly into modern rooms. In perfect condition, it offers silk’s greatest gift: the feeling of walking on light.
