Kassim Ushag – Karabagh, South Caucasus

This stunning Kassim Ushag stands apart for its vibrant colours, rarely found in this celebrated Karabagh group. The design is deliberately asymmetrical: an ivory octagonal medallion holds the field, while the four corners answer with S-shaped diagonals and triangles filled with rows of hooks in blue, pink and beige — wave after wave of them, like currents meeting around an island. Flowers and geometric figures scatter across the remaining ground, and two navy borders filled with blossoms enclose the composition. Kassim Ushag weavings are collector’s territory; one in rose and sky tones is rarer still.
