Konya – Central Anatolia

An antique Konya Yastik in solid, vibrant colours, its wool as lustrous today as it was over a hundred years ago. The design is boldly scaled and intricately resolved: shapes reminiscent of arches, arrows and diamonds interlock in slightly asymmetrical geometry — the endearing irregularity of a weaver working from memory, not from a chart. Earthy red, indigo blue, golden yellow and green compose the palette of central Anatolia at its most honest. Yastiks were woven as cushion faces for the home, which gives them their intimacy: this is village art made for daily life, now elevated to the collector’s wall.
