Twelve lozenge-shaped medallions, edged with serrations and crowned with arrowheads, align in disciplined ranks over an abrashed navy-blue field. The medallions glow in salmon, peach and camel — soft, sun-warmed tones that Kurdish weavers of northwest Persia drew from their dye pots with particular tenderness. The abrash sweeps the dark ground in gentle waves, giving the surface the depth of open water. Kurdish village rugs are treasured for this very marriage: rigorous geometry softened by lyrical colour. A piece of quiet strength, woven by hands that knew both discipline and poetry.
