Lilihan Sarouk – West Persia

A magnificent antique Lilihan Sarouk of excellent quality, made in the early 20th century south of Arak by the Armenian community of Persia — weavers who gave this small district its outsized reputation. The entire field and borders carry a rich design of curvilinear branches bearing floral motifs in blue and gold, riding over the abundant pinks, salmons and khakis that are the Lilihan signature. Few Persian rugs are this unabashedly romantic, and fewer still keep this unique shine: the wool has a lustre that turns every lamp in the room into an accomplice. Bright, vivid, and generous — a rug in a permanently good mood.
