This surprising Malayer stands out for its rare format – unusually wide. The artistic combination of colours is sublime: cobalt blue, saffron, and numerous shades of red. The central medallion is located in a spacious area and is crossed by skillfully delineated horizontal lines that provide balance. The diamond’s border has partially zigzag contours. The lower and upper areas of the diamond are laden with red and white flowers. Three wide borders protect the centre of the rug. This Malayer is stunning because it has two main areas of contrast. The borders are rich in colour and geometric figures, which, next to the medallion, purposely exhaust the mind of the viewer, who is immediately relieved when he directs his attention to the clean, open area of the rug.

The wide format is exceedingly rare among Malayers, and the contrast between the open camel field and the densely drawn corners shows uncommon compositional intelligence.
