A stunning rug woven by an extremely skilled artist in the late 19th century, in the great tradition of northwestern Persia. The cinnamon field is covered with generously spaced geometric and floral elements — angular vines and shield-like palmettes in ivory, navy and sky blue — whose openness gives the composition a feeling of light, unhurried filling: nothing crowds, everything breathes. The border responds with its own repertoire of geometric designs on ivory, edged in soft blue. It is a rug of remarkable serenity, proof that the weavers of this region commanded not only pattern, but space itself.
