Qashqa’i – Southwest Persia

This unique Qashqa’i presents a dark chocolate field inhabited by twelve grand botéhs — the ancient teardrop motif — alternating in rust and terracotta, each one filled with its own miniature world of flowers and tribal figures. Between them, small stars and talismanic devices scatter across the ground like sparks from a campfire. The nomads of the Zagros mountains wove from memory, and it shows: no two botéhs are identical, and the rug pulses with the irregular vitality that collectors of tribal weaving prize above all polish. Framed by ivory-accented guard borders, it is a document of a wandering life, and a work of instinctive art.
