This ancient Serapi was exquisitely made with the highest artistic and quality materials. It is a piece with perfect aesthetic balance. The central medallion in ivory and the foremost field in red are elongated, giving the feeling of spaciousness. The empty red field was made with the abrash technique, providing a profound visual effect to the observer. The red open field produces a feeling of serenity and stillness, which is affected by the contrast with the beautiful articulated blue field around the corners, filled with leaves and exotic flowers. When drawing the flowers, the artist wanted to highlight the sense of temporality: some flowers are beginning to bloom while others are in full blossom. The artistic inspiration of the rug extends to the main border, which contains flowers and leaves in the navy-blue field. The vegetable materials in the dyeing and the excellent quality wool give this rug bright colours, especially the magnificent blue field that remains as bright as it was made more than 150 years ago. Finally, as characteristic of Serapi rugs, the design is classic and tribal.
