The three ways to position it
There are three classic arrangements, and all of them look good:
- One large rug under the bed. The most common and the most comfortable. The rug goes under the bed and extends past the sides and the foot, so you step onto it when you get up. Ideally it should extend 45 to 60 cm beyond each side of the bed.
- Two rugs or runners at the sides. One piece on each side of the bed — a good option when the room is narrower, or when you want to use smaller, special rugs.
- One piece across the foot of the bed. It adds extra charm and warms the passage, on its own or together with the rug underneath.

The wool of antique rugs is soft and warm underfoot, which suits what a bedroom is for.
